Underworld 3 tells you how the never ending war between the Lycans and the Death Dealers began. It does not show the origins of the war but shows how the dispute between the original Lycan and the vampire king, Viktor started. The reason is no big surprise. The fight started over a woman.
Viktor had a daughter named Sonya who was in love with the Lycan, Lucian. Lucian was quite lucky in a sense that when he was a boy he was spared by Viktor. When he grew up he became a blacksmith for the vampire tribe. Viktor was the ruler of this clan and he was a strong minded ruler. Lucian was more like a slave, like the other captured Lycans, working hard for the vampire family. But all along he has fallen in love with Sonya and there were moments when the two will sneak away to their secret meeting place and made love.

But Viktor has a different future for him in mind. You need to watch the movie to find out what real happens there. I am not going to spoil the party.
The latest Underworld movie is as much enjoyable as the previous two editions. The action is fast and furious and goes well with the storyline. Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy as Lucian and Viktor are brilliant. Rhona Mitra handles her role quite well but falls much short of expectations. After all, it is hard to replace someone of the caliber of Kate Beckinsdale. The film scores heavily with the critic as it has the right casting and a very good director in Patrick.
Rise of the Lycans is not for general viewing. Only those people who have an appetite for horror films will like this one. The film has lots of blood and gore as the weapons used are all of the medieval period. If you detest blood on screen then don't come anywhere near this one.
